Words. We speak them. We hear them. We read them and we think them. We use them to describe and express, to communicate and inspire. Carefully crafted words can paint fantastic images across the canvas of our minds, as well as instill love and hope in our hearts. Through words we find friendship and belonging, offer acceptance and understanding, and promote caring and respect. But words can also hurt. They can belittle, manipulate, control, and persuade. They can steal our joy and destroy our faith. Even the simplest of words can create fear or perpetuate hate, and in many cases leave us far more broken inside than most any violence or abuse. But it’s not just the words of others causing so much pain; it’s our own.
